Translating/interpreting skill is given less emphasis than the other skills. This is so on the ground that it is not essential in your profession as an English teacher. If you feel you need to enhance this skill, we advise you to take an optional course which is available in your overall curriculum. Consult with your local tutor about it.

The translating/interpreting activities in your first year courses are designed to increase your awareness of the differences between English and Chinese. You will have a lot more translating/interpreting activities in your second year courses. They are designed to increase your awareness of the differences in communicative strategies between English and Chinese. One point worth keeping in mind here is that you always follow the on-line instructions when you do the activities.
