In short, put those English words naming the things you want to think about or talk about, that you have learnt into sequence which conforms to the rules of English langauge grammar.
If we go further, we will be talking about quite another point of learning or acquiring English langauge.
You may get satifactory explainations in language and Linguistics(chapter3,chapter4)

In linguistics, things exist in three worlds; material world, subjective world and symbolic world. For example, house, cold anddragon.
All words are names. In terms of grammar, the category names of objects are often called nouns, the category names of action are called verbs, and the category names of the qualities of things are called adjectives.
Words group into two relations;paradigmatic relation amd syntagmatic relation on which grammar rules are based.
To think in one language is to use the words naming things according to the rules.
Different langauge have different words(names) and grammar rules. To think in English is to put English words in to the sequence confroming to rules of English grammar. The same is true of Chinses and any other langauges. The differcen, as you know, is that the user use different words and rules.
No matter you are conscious of the process or not, that's the only explaination. Even if one may have to translate Chinse into English when talking about things, they are taking the same process of putting English words in group to reflct the things indirectly. That is to say, they use English to thinking about the very Chinse sentences which is something in the symbolic world(汉语本身就成了一种象征世界中的事物)first, and then they think in Chinses to capture the things in the three world afterwards.
To think in English directly in order to caputure the thngs, one should name the things at the very beginning in English.

as to the topic , i would like to propose that we can make further discussion within these two aspects :one, how can i enlarge my vocabulary efficiently, i don't think simply memorizing is acceptable.the other, english grammar can be simply stated as the study of words and rules of words into sentences ,i don't chant opposition to the grammar learning and acquisition,i attach great importance to the blending between grammatical rules and our daily language use, what is the ideal approach ?

How to build up the ability of thinking in English?
When we first study English,we get the habits of translate all what we read into Chinese, which may help us to understand the English sentences we read, but after a period of time,we may find it is not a good method to improve our reading skills. After all English is English which quite different from our mother tongue. The best way to learn English is to build up the ability to think in English while you reading English articles. So how to develop this skill? To me I think we should read as much original essays as possible from the simple ones to the difficult ones. The more you read, the more easier you will be to get the sense of the language. To do some intensive reading as well as to do much extensive reading will help you a lot in setting up the skills of thinking in English.
So I strongly suggest the learners to read as much as possible, read English newspapers, read English novels, watch English TV program as well as read aloud some good essays.

undoubtedly ,you really gave us some chief ideas as to learning english in an efficient manner which deserves our attention.but , i think your methodology is of impotance to an advanced learner, but ,as an english tyro, maybe it is far beyond my ability.you know , reading original articles such as a literary tome is not so easy ; conversely i always get tired of reading them, because it seems that i have no impression concerning them except some new words. i can't get their gists.why? furthermore,we chinese should introduce our culture to the world in english way, that is another thing left us to do.so we should further study our mother tongue,in doing so i think we can benefit from that during our english learning process . do you think so?

Yes, Ligang. If we choose an article filled with new words, we will become bored since there are too many new vocabulary which prevent us from understanding. So from the beginning we ought to find some simple essays to read. It depends on ourselves to search the proper books and magazines to read. I still remember some English novels written in simple language which are easy to read and understand and also helpful. So ask your friends as well as your tutors to recommend some useful reading materials for you.

your suggestion is undoubtedly acceptable;i would like to sum up your points of view above like the following : reading is helpful and of course it contributes to our thought in english; cogitation ie. thought is a summary, indirect reflection human beings make to the objective world.if we want to reach the level of thinking in english in our language learning,we should pay much attention to our reading methods as well as our reading materials.you know, reading is a process of induction as far as language learning is concerned; so, effective reading is of signifance during the course of our thinking training.but what are the other aspects which are truely involved in our language-foreign thinking, we hence need to make further surveys to clarify it.
