How to learn English Well!

My Chinese name is Xiang Cuican, but most of my friends call me George. I am working as a primary English teacher in an international K12 school in Guangzhou.As a BWOL student, I would like to share my English learning experience with you.

English has been an international language. With China’s accession to WTO in 2001, English has been a very popular foreign language in mainland China. More and more Chinese people have started to learn English with different purposes. English learning is a tough job. How can we learn it well? I think many people have the same problem like this. Even some people wonder if there is a short cut to achieve success in English learning. The answer is absolutely negative. If not, what shall we do?

Before learning, you need to have a clear goal. If you have one, you will be motivated when you are learning. You will be sure to strive for it, and you won’t be easy to give up. You know, this is really important. For me, my goal was to be an outstanding translator/interpreter. The goal has been along with me for over 16 years. It is the most important goal in my life.

Second, you should know inside yourself and build up your confidence. When people embark upon something new, they tend to think of things that lie outside. They seldom begin by taking a fresh look at themselves, at their own strengths and weaknesses, that is, they seldom attempt to achieve an understanding of themselves against the new task. As Nikki Giovanni, the American poet, once observed, “if you don’t understand yourself you don’t understand anybody else.” And if you understand neither yourself nor anybody else, you won’t be able to achieve anything.

If you have a clear goal and enough confidence, then you should make a learning plan for you. A comprehensive and efficient learning plan will be a half success of your study. Then, you will study according to the plan strictly, and I am sure you will win every battle in your study.

You have already had all of the above learning conditions. If you have persistence and a sense of long term learning determination, I think you will achieve your goal someday in the future. Trust yourself and you will win the battle.
