亲爱的国际奥林匹克委员会主席萨马兰奇先生：
欣悉中国北京市获得二00八年第二十九届奥林匹克运动会的举办权，我代表中国政府和中国人民，并以我个人的名义，对您为国际奥林匹克运动发展作出的贡献，致以崇高的敬意！并通过您，向国际奥林匹克委员会对中国的信任和支持，表示衷心的感谢！中国政府和中国人民将全力以赴支持北京市，把二00八年奥林匹克运动会办成一次弘扬奥林匹克精神、促进世界和平、增进各国人民友谊的盛会。

The President of the People’s Republic of China, Jiang Zemin, has sent the following message to the President of the International Olympic Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch.
‘I am very delighted to know that Beijing has won the right to host the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. I wish to, on behalf of the Chinese Government and people and in my own name, pay high tribute to you for the contribution you have made for the international Olympic Movement. I also wish to express, through you, my heartfelt thanks to the International Olympic Committee for its trust in and support to China. The Chinese Government and people will go all out to support Beijing in turning the 2008 Olympic Games into a ground gathering to carry forward the Olympic spirit, promote world peace and enhance friendship among the peoples of the world.’
